As seen on KDKA-TV What is it and how do I get started?
Attention adventure seekers! Geocaching is high-tech worldwide treasure hunt that involves the internet, map coordinates, and a GPS. Think the pirates of Treasure Island meet modern technology. As as the geocacher, you need no prior experience and have two options. One, you can “hide” a container, called a geocache, anywhere in the world, pinpoint it’s location using GPS technology and then share the geocache’s existence and location online. Or two, you can go online, enter your zip code, find a list of geocaches in your area and head off with your GPS and coordinates to “seek” the geocaches that others have hidden. You will then typically sign a logbook and return the geocache to it’s original location and go online to share your stories and post photos of your experience. This is a truly unique way to get outdoors that is both a great family activity or a way to just spend some time chilling with friends.
What treasures await you?
